Why should you reduce sugar? First of all, sugar is acidic and causes tooth decay. It is wise to brush yourteeth after consuming sugary foods.

Sugar is one of the reasons why people gain excessive weight it leads to other ailments such as diabetes,heart disease, poor blood circulation amongst others. Whilst sugar is necessary for a healthy diet and inSMALL quantities, it is best taken NATURALLY and unprocessed.

Sugar is also formed from starchy foods like white yam, cassava, white long grain rice, potatoes, whitebread and pastas. Consuming a lot of these foods can result in some kind of disease or the other.

What can I do?

Here are a few ideas that can help you to eat healthier.

Use bananas to replace sugar in cakes, smoothies or cereals. Bananas are full of nutrition like andhealthy for you. Bananas are rich in potassium which is good for your heart and blood pressure, plus itcontains magnesium that reduces the risk of having a stroke.

Bananas like plantain can be eaten green where they are boiled till tender, served as carbohydrate.These foods are very low in starch and can be digested easily.

Reduce white products and replace them with wholesome brown wheat or local, delicious, brown rice.Basmati has low starch which is also a good alternative. Fufu that is predominantly plantain based ismuch healthier than too much cassava.

Honey – has medicinal properties and can be taken in moderation.
